Happy New Year

I want you to know how pleased and proud that I am of having you as team members. You are all very loyal, dependable and consistent. You exemplify the quote from Robert Collier that says "Success is the small sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out"

Congratulations to Amanda Rodriguez's husband, Jorge. Jorge is from Costa Rica and has just become a U.S. Citizen. He will go through the ceremony while I am gone, otherwise I would be there. It is such an exciting time for them.

I am leaving Sunday for 2 weeks in the Panama/Costa Rica area for a land & sea tour including the Panama Canal. I will have limited email access but will answer your questions as I can.

I wish for all of you a wonderful and prosperous New Year!! Love, Karen

Quote from Zig Ziglar

Here is a great quote from Zig Ziglar who is one of the motivational speakers for our February 16 Unit Field Trip:

After a speech one day, Zig Ziglar was approached by someone in the audience who said:
"Zig, it was a great speech, but...motivation doesn't last."

Zig said, "Bathing doesn't either. That's why I recommend it daily!"

Cancun Incentive

Want to get paid to go to Cancun next February?
Come February I'm very ready for some warm weather and sun! A 5- Star Resort vacation in Cancun sounds great! Oh, and I don't have to pay for it - that's even better!

Check out http://www.cmc-network.com/ vivacancun link for how you can actually get paid to go to Cancun! There are $500 bonus checks, monthly commission checks, and rebate checks waiting just for you! Oh, and a room with your name and a guest's on it, too! And that Leader Conference in Cancun before the vacation? Well, let's just say you don't have to be a "leader" to attend!

Are you kidding me? Who wouldn't plan go?

Who are you going to take with you? I want to take you, but you have to decide you are going to go with me! Think of how much fun it will be! Poolside drinks, toes in the sand, walks along the beach....or what about a massage, parasailing and snorkeling?

Oh, and if you have one downline right now - starting Sept. 1, you are going to get paid commission. And, when you add another, your commission will quadruple! Yes - that's right! So, you just might want to check that one out on the network, too, because it all adds up to CANCUN!

Leadership not on your mind? No worries, you don't have to be a leader to go on this trip. Check out all the details on the Viva Cancun link! On your mark, get set, GO! What you've done in August counts, so make September count for even more!

And, a little teaser....those bonus $500 checks I mentioned - well, you might just want to see what that's all about on the network when you link into the Qualifications & Rewards section of "Launch into Leadership". Seriously, in this economy, I can't figure out why anyone wouldn't want an extra $500? Can you?
So, some extra money in your pocket for family expenses, a wonderful resort vacation in February, new friends...

...and did I forget to mention a SALE to help you get there? Yup - it's a Digital Deal from September 8 - 21, so hop on board and let everyone know! Finish up your storybooks and order now for Christmas gifts! It all counts for added volume! Here's the scoop....and you can find more (flyer and e-promo) on cmc-network:

Tonya Grimes

I wanted to share this great lesson from Tonya Grimes:

I found myself 3/4 of the way up and I just didn't know how I was going to position myself to make it the rest of the way. You see, I'm scared to death of heights. My kids challenged me to a climb the side of a quarry hole (a VERY big one). I accepted the challenge because I knew it would be nothing but good for me to push myself through some of this fear. I was focused for 3/4 of the way up when all of a sudden, I ran out of rocks to grab....and I did the worst thing ever...I looked down. So there I was, positioned on the side of a dirt mountain, knowing that I had crossed the point of no return. I couldn't go back down (way too long and risky) and I didn't know how to move forward.

Just then my 13 year old encourager (Josh) came to the rescue. He came right up beside me and said, "Mom, you can do this. Besides, the moon is going to come up soon and you just need to move faster before it gets dark!" (It was 2:00 in the afternoon!) I said, "Josh, I'm just so close but I don't have anything left to grab a hold of." He replied, "You don't need to grab anything...just dig your feet in and take little steps. Once you start to move, don't stop...just keep digging your toes into the dirt and don't look down."

Well I did just as my little mountain climbing teacher instructed me to do and what a sense of accomplishment when I put my feet on firm ground at the top...and what a view!

So many business applications ran through my mind as I experienced this challenging event. I'm going to list them, trusting there will be golden nugget that will help to make your life and business enriched!

1. Put yourself into challenging situations that will cause you to grow. Make yourself do some cold calling, not because it's the most effective way to build a business, but it will help to sharpen your wording and phone skills. No growth EVER takes place unless there is some kind of adversity or stumbling block to overcome (and this goes for business and spiritual growth)! So, the next time something yucky happens just think: I'M GROWING! I love this saying: If your gut is churning, you're learning!

2. Never look back. Once you make a commitment to run your business and work it hard, don't look back and never get discouraged. Don't allow negative people to talk you out of your decision. Don't let YOURSELF talk you out of working hard. It's worth it to keep pressing on...so don't hand yourself over to wimpy excuses!

3. Get someone to come alongside of you. Grab a mentor, sister consultant, upline, or anyone who has your best business interest at heart. That means choosing someone who will encourage you (Mom you can do it) and also add some tough love (Mom...the moon is coming up...do this before it gets dark). Pace with someone who is willing to dig their toes into the dirt with you to help you reach the top (and what a view it will be....think big commission checks and a sense of accomplishment!).

4. Many times consultants will get discouraged 3/4 of the way through their business and they'll give up; walk away; quit. I always felt sad for these people because if they could have pushed themselves the other 1/4, it just may have been the turning point in their business. In the last 1/4 they may have recruited the person who ended up shooting to the top, making the upline a lot of money; or they may have found a recruit who became the top salesperson, selling well over $100,000 by herself each year; perhaps this person would have set themselves on track to eventually make $15,000 per month or more. But, they never experienced what could have been because they quit 3/4 of the way up the mountain. Don't let this happen to you....press on. In this economy, it's the smartest decision you could ever make!

5. Dig those heels in and just plow through the work it takes to build big. It's work and there's no two ways about it....but I have always said, "You have to work hard at something during this lifetime, it might as well be at a business that allows you to invest yourself into people's lives, give them a great product/service, and leave your fingerprint on those you touch. What a mission we're on!

Hybrid Scrapbooking

HYBRID SCRAPBOOKING WITH STORYBOOK CREATOR PLUS
By Lori Willcox, Independent Creative Memories Consultant
Do you love traditional scrapbooking but want to incorporate some digital scrapbooking into your work? Try “hybrid” scrapbooking which is the best of both worlds!

Make your own “Kit”
Create an 8.5x11 page in Storybook Creator Plus (SBC+) and design embellishments for a 2‐page 12x12 layout. You can make a border, title, journaling box, embellishments, framed or matted photos, etc, print it off on your own printer, and cut up the pieces to use on your layout with some coordinating background papers! I like to print these on photo paper for the safety and quality.

Create Titles
Do you need lots of titles for your album but are low on ABC stickers? Create a page in SBC+ and fill it with all the titles you’ll need in various sizes, colours and fonts! Sometimes I’ll do a few on a 4x6 page and print it on photo paper, and sometimes I’ll do a bunch on an 8.5x11 page. You can match the title colours exactly to your photos! On my son’s Shot Put page, I used a photo of the shot itself to replace the “O” in Shot.

Make Embellishments for Cards or Scrapbook Pages
Only have one particular flower sticker and need 3 for your card? No problem! Duplicate as many as you like on a 4x6 SBC+ page and print! I like using photo paper with a satin finish for this. Then you can either cut them out with scissors or use a circle punch. Cut some mats with the Scallop Circle Maker.

Almost Fully Digital
Create an 8.5x11 digital page, print it, mat it and mount it on 12x12 paper. You can use a template, a predesigned page or your own design. Use paper from the matching traditional kit! You could also make an 8x8 page to center on your 12x12 paper.

Make Borders
You can buy 12x4 photo paper now. If your printer supports it, design your own borders….one 4” border, two 2” borders, or four 1” borders! You can also do 11” borders using 8.5x11” paper. Also, you can fill a 12x12 page with borders and upload it for printing (unless you are lucky enough to have a 12x12 printer)!

Create Journaling Boxes
Go crazy with your journaling! Make your journaling fit inside of a shape like a circle or a heart. Journal along a wavy line or make a nice rectangular box. Match colours to your photos and use any font on your computer. Make it fit nicely to 4x6 photo paper or fit a bunch of them on an 8.5x11 print.

Mat your Photos
There are several options for matting your photos but I like the triple matting. You can use a patterned paper or match a colour in your photos. A great alternative if you don’t have quite the right colour of cardstock to use for matting. Then print your photos and they are ready for mounting in your album!

Add Text to your Photos
Is your page short on journaling space but you have a big chunk of sky in your photo? Put your title or journaling right on your photo!

Use Digital Templates to Plan your Traditional Pages
There are many different template designs that could work well on a traditional page! Depending on the type of template, you could drag your photos into the template for sizing and placement, and then move the photos to a separate page for printing. Or, you could drag your photos into a photo cluster, print the cluster and then cut out the cluster as a whole.

Make Photo Globes
You can use the Sphereize tool in SBC+ to make a photo globe or a soccer ball using several photos. Use the circle cutting system to cut it out and then mount it on your page using foam squares.
Traditionalize a Digital Page

Make a digital page and then add traditional embellishments.
For example, put digital flowers on your page and layer paper flowers on top of them.

Make Filmstrips
Use a filmstrip template and fit lots of photos inside. Fit 3 or 4 strips on 8.5 x 11 photo paper and trim. Place them a different angles on your 12x12 paper.

Make Bubbles
Use a digital glass brad with the metal trimmed off as a bubble to place over your photo! Great for bath or beach pics.

Create a MosaicCut your photos into a grid for a quick mosaic page.

Traditional Titles
Like the look of ABC titles on punched out squares? Print your letters so that they are spaced out enough to be cut with a square punch. Mount each square on cardstock.

12x12 Photo
Sometimes a photo is so great that it deserves to take up a whole page. Create a 12x12 full bleed photo page and upload it for printing. Adhere it to your scrapbook page or slide it into a Picfolio Max album.

Create “Anne Geddes” type PhotosPut a photo of your baby’s face in a daisy or a pea pod. Be creative!

Make a Photo Wheel
Use a wheel template to make a circular group of photos. Cut with the circle cutting system and mount with foam squares.

Make Paper and Embellishments out of a Photo
Use a skinny rectangular slice of a colourful photo and stretch it into background paper or a border. You can make plaid paper by copying your stretched paper, rotating it sideways and reducing the opacity so that the first paper shows underneath….beautiful

Business is like planting a garden

Special thanks to Ilene Meckley for this information!

Spring will officially be here in a couple of days. Business is so much like planting a garden. We first have to plant the seeds, and then we have to water, mulch and fertilize. We know some plants will grow easily and some plants require a lot of care. Some people even believe in talking to their plants. We want to be sure we help your business garden grow this Spring! More and more insects start to appear in the spring. ANT’s (automatic negative thoughts) are not fun to have around! Keep them from invading your business! We are having “Getting Rid of ANT’s “ parties this spring. You are invited! Call 702-673-0361 to attend this fun activity in your city.

Tips for your business garden:

Getting the soil ready--It is important the soil is ready to receive the plants. In a business garden that means working the day as you would prepare the ground--making a plan as to where you are going to make the contacts, just like you would make a plan as to where you will put the garden and when you will work on the garden throughout your daily routine.

Fertilizing--to make the soil richer is like doing the full service contact to be sure the person you talk to can be richer also! They can be enriched from all the services you offer. This is such an important step in the growing process. This is also a step in gardening that can be sometimes not so pleasant. We still do it because we know it is important.

Planting the seeds--we know that some will grow heartily, some will sprout and then die and some seedlings will never make an appearance. We know we have to plant many seeds to have a full, beautiful garden. This is the same philosophy needed for our business garden. Expect the no's, accept the no's and respect the no's in the same way as you would from the seeds in your garden. Focus on the plants that do make the garden so worthwhile working for.

Watering--this is the most important step to being sure the plants have what they need. Are you watering your business--making 5-10 contacts--knowing that you are watering your business with each contact?

In a nursery, there are so many types of plants to choose from and in your business, there are so many kinds of people and places to meet people. Spring is a time to get out more and meet new people. I have included a list of places where sharing can happen so naturally.
